Sadly I can’t recommend MIST at all to potential students. I find that their makeup aesthetic is somewhat outdated, and while the basic lessons were okay, I did not feel that I learnt anything really advanced from the course, which was disappointing. Furthermore, I paid close to 6000 euros for it, which seems overpriced for basic makeup lessons. Their products are also very pricey for what they are. As an avid fan of historical makeup, I was also disappointed by the lack of accuracy for the historical makeup lessons (or as they call it, epoque makeup). I was additionally horrified that they actually taught inaccurate ’geisha’ and ’kabuki’ makeup- not only were these lessons inaccurate, it is also deeply offensive, and I say this as a person of East Asian descent. (True, I did not attend the ’geisha’ and ’kabuki’ lessons, but the school uploaded the completed lesson photos in a class group, and even from that it’s obvious that the makeup was lacking and disrespectful of the culture.) The most egregious however is that if we had any problems or complaints, they were entirely dismissed by the school staff and swept under the carpet. They didn’t solve our problems while claiming they either already did or couldn’t see what our problems were. My classmates and I tried several times to discuss our issues with them to no avail. Complaining to various watchdogs who were supposed to have accredited them also yielded no results, so imagine our frustration and anger. Even in posting a review on another platform, they accused me of falsely accusing them, but I think I have been nothing but factual and as balanced in opinion as I can be. I think that students should be entitled to their opinions even if it’s a negative one. I’ve furthermore consulted some friends and relatives in the industry, and they also do not agree with the aesthetics and practices of the school, so take that difference in professional opinion as you will. Potential students may also wish to note that it is not CSN-approved. It was not something I thought was important at first, but a friend advised that it may be an important point for some students. I would have given two stars, but I notice that some glowing reviews here are left by staff, so I think it’s only fair that I reduce my actual rating. To summarise very briefly- Pros: - basic makeup lessons are ok - we got to practice in person on various models (but we had to find the models ourselves) Cons: - not CSN-approved - no real advanced techniques - various models and students had breakouts from the products used - products are VERY pricey - staff don’t take our problems and complaints seriously and dismiss us for any critique whatsoever. Complaining to other organisations was pointless.
